Nigerian Startups Lead Charge in Google's Accelerator Africa Cohort

Four Nigerian Tech Companies Selected for Prestigious Program

Four innovative startups from Nigeria—Bani, MasteryHive AI, Regxta, and Termii—have been chosen to participate in the 10th cohort of Google’s Accelerator Africa program. The announcement follows a highly competitive selection process with fewer than 1% of nearly 2,600 applicants making the cut.

The four Nigerian companies represent the most significant national presence in this year’s class of 15 startups, which includes participants from Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Senegal, Tanzania, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, and Zimbabwe. These selected ventures are developing AI-powered solutions to address critical challenges across various sectors.

Addressing Key Infrastructure Gaps

The cohort is focused on tackling persistent issues in African financial infrastructure:

  • Bani builds payment infrastructure that enables businesses to settle cross-border transactions faster when trading globally.
  • MasteryHive AI automates transaction reconciliation, fraud detection, and anti-money laundering monitoring for financial institutions.
  • Regxta uses alternative data to assess creditworthiness and extend financial products to unbanked microbusinesses often overlooked by traditional lenders.
  • Termii creates reliable communication infrastructure that ensures critical financial messages are delivered, including payment OTPs and fraud alerts.

Program Benefits & Impact

The three-month hybrid program provides access to:

  • Mentorship from industry experts
  • AI and machine learning workshops
  • Technical support tailored for deep-tech startups
  • Networking opportunities with investors and potential partners

According to Gbolade Emmanuel, CEO of Termii, the accelerator’s value is already evident: “The Google Startup Accelerator is helping us accelerate our AI roadmap and scale globally—even in the first week, access to technical support has been incredibly valuable.”

The program has historically proven transformative for participating companies. Alumni have collectively raised over $263 million and created more than 2,800 jobs since the accelerator’s launch in 2018.

Folarin Aiyegbusi, Head of Startup Ecosystem for Africa at Google, emphasized that these startups represent a broader trend: “African founders are driving essential economic growth and social development. Our role is to provide technical infrastructure, mentorship, and global networks to help them scale their impactful solutions.”

The 10th cohort underscores the growing importance of AI-powered solutions in bridging Africa’s infrastructure gaps while addressing critical business challenges across the continent.
