Fitozon Bridges Gap Between Sudanese Consumers and Global E-Commerce
Enabling Access: Fitozon Connects Sudanese Shoppers to International Retailers
Sudanese startup Fitozon is transforming how consumers in Sudan access global e-commerce platforms. Founded in 2023 by Ibrahim Algali, the company operates as a cross-border facilitation platform that allows Sudanese customers to purchase from major international retailers like Amazon, AliExpress, Noon, and Shein using their local currency.
The need for such a service stems from significant barriers faced by Sudanese consumers: limited access to foreign currency, restrictions on international payment methods, and a general lack of awareness about global e-commerce options. Fitozon handles the entire purchase process on behalf of customers—from procurement and international shipping to customs clearance and final delivery.
Since its launch, Fitozon has processed over 40,000 orders—a remarkable achievement considering it’s been entirely bootstrapped with no external funding. Algali attributes this success to organic growth through word-of-mouth referrals and social media engagement, including a TikTok following of more than 42,000.
“We act as the trusted bridge between global e-commerce and the Sudanese consumer,” Algali explained in an interview with Disrupt Africa. “Most Sudanese consumers cannot hold foreign currency accounts or use international credit cards, making direct purchases from platforms like Amazon practically impossible for the majority of the population.”
The company generates revenue through service fees on each order, which cover operational costs while maintaining a sustainable margin. Fitozon has generated approximately $122,000 in revenue over the past year—demonstrating the viability of its business model despite operating in a challenging environment.
Looking ahead, Algali plans to expand Fitozon’s offerings by launching a local marketplace platform that will enable Sudanese merchants and sellers to connect with domestic customers. This would transform Fitozon from solely a cross-border facilitator into a comprehensive e-commerce ecosystem for Sudan.
