Driving Electric Mobility Across Africa: Spiro Adds Industry Leader

Spiro, one of the continent’s largest electric motorcycle companies, has appointed Auroasish Choudhuri as Managing Director for West and Central Africa. This strategic hire underscores Spiro’s commitment to expanding its footprint across key African markets.

Choudhuri brings over two decades of experience in automotive leadership roles spanning Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Previously CEO of DAG Industries overseeing operations in Nigeria and Benin, he also held senior positions at TVS Motor Company and Escorts Limited with a focus on international sales and market expansion.

“Auroasish’s deep understanding of the automotive sector combined with his track record in scaling businesses will be invaluable as we continue to grow Spiro across Africa,” said Anant Badjatya, Spiro’s Group CEO. Choudhuri echoed this sentiment, noting that Africa is entering an “exciting new phase” in mobility transformation.

The appointment follows Spiro’s recent $270 million funding round and reflects the company’s ambition to build a comprehensive electric mobility ecosystem beyond just selling motorcycles—including battery swapping infrastructure, vehicle manufacturing, and recycling facilities. With operations already established in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Benin, Togo, and Cameroon, Spiro has identified Ethiopia and DRC as future expansion targets.

This move signals that Spiro is focused on developing robust local supply chains and partnerships to support its growth—a critical step for any company aiming to scale sustainable mobility solutions across Africa.
