Six African Startups Secure $400,000 in Funding Through the FINCA Ventures Prize
Six Promising African Startups Receive Catalytic Funding
Six innovative startups across Africa have been awarded a total of $400,000 through the 2026 FINCA Ventures Prize Competition. The annual prize recognizes and supports entrepreneurs developing practical solutions to critical challenges in financial inclusion and sustainable agriculture.
The competition drew over 700 applications before a panel of judges selected six finalists who pitched their ventures at an event hosted by Cisco in San Francisco on October 6th. Winners were chosen across two categories: fintech for financial inclusion, and sustainable agriculture/food systems.
VunaPay (Kenya) and Kumbatia Seafood (Kenya) took home the top prizes of $100,000 each as first-place winners in their respective categories. Nesti (Kenya) and eAgro (Zimbabwe) secured second place with $60,000 grants apiece, while ChatCash (Rwandan/Zimbabwean venture) and Pollen Patrollers (Kenya) rounded out the awards with $40,000 each.
“These entrepreneurs are demonstrating that market failure can be an opportunity for those who see it,” said FINCA Global CEO Andrée Simon. “By providing early-stage funding and support, we aim to help them build momentum and attract further investment.”
The FINCA Ventures Prize Competition underscores the growing ecosystem of impact investors backing African startups poised to address critical development challenges at scale.
