Reni Onafeko Named New Country Managing Director of Glovo Nigeria

Reni Onafeko Takes Helm at Glovo Nigeria Amidst Rapid Growth

Glovo, the global on-demand delivery platform, has announced the appointment of Reni Onafeko as its new Country Managing Director for Nigeria. This transition follows Lamide Akinola’s departure after more than three years leading the company’s Nigerian operations.

Onafeko, who joined Glovo at the beginning of 2026, previously served in key leadership roles including Head of Strategy & Finance and Head of Growth. Her appointment comes as Glovo celebrates Nigeria as its fastest-growing market globally, having delivered over 38 million items in the country throughout 2025.

“My experience across strategy, finance, and growth has provided me with a deep understanding of our business potential in this dynamic market,” Onafeko stated. “I’m excited to work alongside our talented teams, partners, and stakeholders to build on our successes and drive sustainable expansion.”

Continued Investment & Expansion Plans

Glovo has invested over ₦37 billion ($27 million) in Nigeria since entering the market, significantly expanding its network of partner restaurants and shops. The company is now focused on broadening its reach across major cities including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Ibadan.

Akinola’s departure marks the end of a successful tenure where she transformed Glovo Nigeria into an $80 million operation—the company’s fastest-growing market globally. Prior to becoming Country Managing Director in 2023, Akinola built Glovo’s Q-commerce marketplace for groceries and retail across Sub-Saharan Africa.

“This experience has deepened my conviction in the immense opportunity across Africa,” Akinola noted on LinkedIn. “I’m proud of what we achieved together and excited to see what the future holds for this talented team.”

Onafeko brings a wealth of experience from her eight-year consulting career at Boston Consulting Group, where she advised executives on investment decisions and growth strategies.
