MEST Launches Second Cohort for AI Startup Program, Targeting Next-Gen Founders

MEST Opens Applications for Second AI Startup Program

The Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) has announced the launch of its second annual AI Startup Programme in Accra, Ghana. This intensive program aims to equip Africa’s most promising tech talents with the skills and resources needed to build globally competitive artificial intelligence startups.

Building a New Generation of African Tech Leaders

For 18 years, MEST has been at the forefront of software entrepreneurship training across Africa, supporting founders through every stage of growth. Recognizing AI’s transformative potential, MEST redesigned its flagship program last year to specifically address this emerging landscape.

The fully-funded, seven-month program provides hands-on technical instruction, mentorship from industry experts (including OpenAI, Perplexity, Google, and Meltwater), and business coaching tailored for the AI sector. The curriculum covers everything from building foundational AI skills to developing market-ready solutions.

From Training to Investment

After an intensive training phase, top ventures advance to a four-month incubation period where they refine their products and go-to-market strategies. Startups then have the opportunity to pitch for pre-seed investment of up to US$100,000 and join MEST’s portfolio of successful companies.

“AI technology is advancing at an extraordinary pace,” said Emily Fiagbedzi, AI Startup Programme director. “This program helps talented African founders build solutions to real challenges while positioning them to compete globally.”

Who Should Apply?

For the 2027 intake, MEST seeks founders based in Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, and Kenya between ages 21–35 who possess software development experience and a desire to create AI-powered ventures. The program prioritizes individuals ready to commit full-time to building their startups.

Applications are now open at [link to application portal]. Don’t miss this opportunity to join MEST’s network of innovators and shape the future of Africa’s tech ecosystem.
