JéGO Partners with GoCab to Deploy 6,000 Electric Vehicles Across West Africa

In a significant move towards sustainable transportation in Africa, JéGO, an electric-vehicle company focused on the continent’s needs, has signed a commercial agreement with GoCab, a drive-to-own mobility startup. The partnership aims to deploy 6,000 electric vehicles across Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Nigeria over the next 24 months.

The first 600 vehicles will target ride-hailing platforms like Uber, Bolt, and inDrive, offering drivers a pathway to ownership through manageable daily payments. This approach addresses one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption: high upfront costs—allowing operators to scale without straining their balance sheets.

“We didn’t start JéGO just to sell EVs,” explained Frederick Akpoghene, CEO & Founder of JéGO. “Our mission is to give Africa the freedom to move on its own terms, powered by renewable energy.” He envisions a future where African cities lead in mobility innovation rather than following global trends.

The deal reflects growing investor interest in Africa’s EV market, which has seen electric motorcycle sales surge from fewer than 1,000 units in 2020 to approximately 70,000 projected for 2025—driven by rising fuel costs and battery-swapping networks.

JéGO differentiates itself with the JéGO X AI fleet-management system that provides telematics, predictive maintenance, and driver performance tracking. GoCab, which already operates in these markets with a drive-to-own model, plans to reach 50% EV adoption by 2026 through partnerships like this.

Founded by Nigerian engineer Frederick Akpoghene, JéGO initially developed autonomous pods for healthcare before pivoting to focus on African EVs. The company recently unveiled its Zero Carbon vehicle at the University of Lagos and is currently raising a Series A round after securing early fleet partnerships with Uber.
