Building the Future of Learning: Injini’s New Venture Builder Supports AI in Education

The Cape Town-based edtech incubator, accelerator, and think tank Injini has announced its latest initiative: a venture builder and incubation program focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for education. This eight-month program aims to support 12 pre-formed teams as they develop market-ready edtech startups tailored for African classrooms.

From Idea to Impact - The Program Structure:

The Injini AI for Education program comprises two phases:

Phase 1 (5 months): Venture Build - Teams will progress through problem validation, customer research, solution design, building a functional MVP, and conducting live pilots to generate real-world usage data.

Phase 2 (3 months): Incubation - The top five teams from Phase 1 receive mentorship, business model refinement, go-to-market strategy development, and Measurement & Evaluation Support (MEL).

Equity-Free Funding for Promising Ventures:

The top five ventures will each receive $25,000 in equity-free seed capital to support their growth.

“We’ve spent years engaging with brilliant people across the region who understand education problems intimately but lack the resources or clear path to build solutions,” explained Krista Davidson, executive director at Injini. “This program addresses those gaps by providing both technical and financial support.”

Addressing a Critical Need in African Education:

The initiative responds to concerns about AI-powered edtech that isn’t designed for African contexts. By supporting local teams to build their own solutions, Injini aims to ensure that these tools are relevant, effective, and address the specific challenges faced by students and educators across Sub-Saharan Africa.
