Halcyon Launches Agri-Food Innovation Programme for African Startups
Supporting the Future of Food in Africa
Impact incubator Halcyon has announced applications are now open for its new Agriculture and Food Security programme, specifically targeted at early-stage ventures across Sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative provides equity-free support to startups addressing critical challenges in agriculture and food systems.
The selected companies will each receive a $10,000 stipend, plus an additional $10,000 in AWS credits. Beyond funding, participants gain access to professional advisors, workshops on leadership development and market strategy, and networking opportunities with investors.
Addressing Key Needs in African Agriculture
Halcyon is seeking solutions that improve farmer livelihoods, enhance food security, and build resilience against climate impacts—particularly innovations helping farmers adapt to changing weather patterns. Priority areas include:
- Improving agricultural productivity
- Expanding market access for smallholder farmers
- Enhancing nutrition and food system stability
- Building climate-resilient farming practices
Programme Structure & Eligibility
The hybrid programme combines virtual sessions with two in-person residencies: one in Accra, Ghana, and another in Nairobi, Kenya. To be eligible, startups must:
- Be based in Sub-Saharan Africa
- Have generated revenue (post-revenue but pre-profit)
- Possess a working MVP with early commercial traction
- Demonstrate positive impact on farmers/communities
- Align with at least one UN Sustainable Development Goal
Founders must be the primary decision-maker, fluent in English, and commit to attending all programme activities. Applications are open until October 13, 2026.
