Ghanaian Startups Rivia Clinics and VDL Fulfillment Secure $350K Funding Boost

Ghanaian Healthtech and Logistics Companies Receive Seed Capital

Two promising Ghanaian startups, Rivia Clinics and VDL Fulfillment, have secured a combined US$350,000 in funding from the Africa Ecosystem Catalysts Facility. This facility, backed by the Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank (FMO) and Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), aims to support early-stage companies advancing climate resilience and economic mobility across Ghana, Nigeria, and Tanzania.

The $4 million pilot program takes a unique approach to venture capital, partnering with local entrepreneur support organizations like Reach for Change and Innovation Spark in Ghana. These partners help identify promising founder teams and ensure investments align with market realities.

Rivia Clinics, a tech-enabled primary healthcare provider, received US$200,000 to fuel its expansion. VDL Fulfillment, an e-commerce logistics platform serving African SMEs, banked US$150,000 to enhance infrastructure and reach.

“This funding allows us to grow at the pace our operations can handle,” said Vanessa Omari, CEO of VDL Fulfillment. “Premature scaling creates inefficiencies that compound quickly in a complex logistics environment like ours.”

The Africa Ecosystem Catalysts Facility represents a shift towards more inclusive investment models that prioritize impact and founder-driven solutions. Village Capital managing director Heather Matranga noted, “Rivia and VDL exemplify the practical solutions emerging from Ghana – founders addressing real challenges with deep understanding of their customers’ needs.”

These first investments in Ghana mark the beginning of a broader deployment across East and West Africa, signaling increased support for underrepresented entrepreneurs tackling critical issues on the continent.
