Egyptian Fintech Blnk Secures $37M Expansion Funding

Point-of-Sale Lending Leader Attracts Major Investment

Blnk, an Egyptian fintech specializing in point-of-sale financing, has closed a $37 million funding round to accelerate its growth across the country. The investment combines $12.5 million in equity with $24.6 million in local debt facilities, positioning Blnk to extend consumer credit access to underserved populations.

The equity portion of the raise was led by Algebra Ventures and included participation from SANAD Fund for MSME, Endeavor Catalyst, and Emirates International Investment Company. Debt financing came from a consortium of banks including Suez Canal Bank, Al Baraka Bank, and the National Bank of Egypt.

Technology-Driven Approach

A key differentiator for Blnk is its ability to make lending decisions at the point of sale using proprietary underwriting models that incorporate local market data with machine learning. This enables quick approvals with limited paperwork, allowing customers to spread repayments over 6–36 months.

Currently offering financing through more than 3,000 retail locations across electronics, home appliances, furniture, and automotive services, Blnk has already served over one million customers and grown its loan portfolio beyond EGP 1 billion (approximately $21 million).

The company achieved profitability in 2023 after recording 173% year-on-year revenue growth, demonstrating a sustainable business model in Egypt’s expanding consumer finance sector which is projected to reach EGP 96.3 billion ($2 billion) by 2025.

Future Expansion Plans

The new funding will support both balance sheet and strategic initiatives including:

  • Strengthening technology infrastructure
  • Introducing additional financial products
  • Exploring new markets within Egypt
  • Launching a consumer credit card that extends beyond point-of-sale transactions

Starting as a point-of-sale financing provider, Blnk is evolving towards a broader consumer credit platform to meet the growing demand for accessible lending solutions in the Egyptian market.
