Cybersecurity Startup Aeon Raises $1 Million to Protect Africa's Digital Infrastructure

Building a Cyber Defense Layer for High-Trust Organizations

A Nigerian cybersecurity startup, Aeon, has secured $1 million in pre-seed funding to develop its platform that helps organizations protect critical digital assets. The round was led by defense-tech firm Terra Industries, with participation from Resilience 17 (founded by Flutterwave’s Olugbenga Agboola), Kaleo, DFS Labs, Ajim Capital, and Seedstars.

Addressing a Growing Threat Landscape

The investment comes as African businesses and governments face increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks. INTERPOL estimates these incidents caused over $3 billion in financial losses between 2019 and 2025, with AI now linked to 55% of reported crimes.

“Attackers move across multiple systems simultaneously,” explained Aeon co-founder Samuel Ogbonyomi. “We built our platform so organizations like banks and grid operators can see their entire attack surface from a single view.”

Integrated Security Platform

Aeon’s platform offers:

  • Aeon Console: A web-based interface that consolidates security operations, including risk detection, vulnerability management, policy enforcement, incident response, and evidence gathering.
  • Aeon Edge: Software that runs within customer networks to provide visibility into connected devices and enable rapid isolation of compromised systems.

The company’s modular pricing allows customers to select only the features they need, rather than paying for an entire suite.

Strategic Partnership with Terra Industries

Beyond funding, Aeon formed a commercial joint venture with Terra Industries (which recently raised $52 million). This partnership will enable them to pursue both corporate and government contracts:

  • Terra: Will handle physical security components
  • Aeon: Will provide digital and cyber defense expertise

“We envision Aeon becoming the sovereign cyber defense layer for the Global South,” said Terra CEO Nathan Nwachuku. “Where we secure physical assets, Aeon secures the digital realm.”

The partnership has already yielded results, with Terra winning $3 million in security contracts for lithium mining sites and resource projects across Nigeria – potential opportunities that Aeon is evaluating.
