Airwallex Invests $43 Million in UAE to Power Cross-Border Growth

Airwallex Fuels Middle East Expansion with $43 Million Investment

The United Arab Emirates is set to become a key hub for global fintech as Airwallex, an AI-native financial operating system, commits $43 million (AED 158 million) over the next five years. This strategic investment aims to address operational challenges faced by regional businesses expanding internationally.

Meeting Growing Demand for Cross-Border Solutions

As e-commerce in the UAE is projected to reach $21 billion by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 9.4% between 2024 and 2029, many ambitious companies find themselves constrained by legacy financial systems. Airwallex seeks to bridge this gap by providing borderless infrastructure that enables businesses to trade globally from day one.

“Businesses in the UAE are handling more currencies than ever, but too often they’re held back by outdated financial foundations,” said Or Liban, Managing Director for Middle East at Airwallex. “This investment allows us to build solutions tailored to the region’s unique needs, empowering our most ambitious clients.”

Regulatory Approval and Product Innovation

Airwallex has already secured In-Principle Approval from the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) for key licenses, demonstrating a commitment to regulatory compliance. The company plans to launch its full suite of services by 2026, alongside expanding its Dubai office with new hires.

The investment will also support the deployment of Airwallex’s autonomous finance tools – T:0, Airi, and Kai – which automate complex cross-border workflows without human intervention. These AI-powered solutions are designed to help businesses manage global payments, foreign exchange, and other financial operations more efficiently.

With a valuation exceeding $11 billion following its Series H funding round, Airwallex is well-positioned to transform the regional payment landscape and support the growth of Middle East’s next generation of unicorns.
